Suggested Reading for African consciousness raising

In getting ready to go, I mentioned that I am reading some books. If anyone wants to read along, here they are:

The State of Africa by Martin Meredith
This looks at Africa from the start of the colonial period to the present.

Africa: Biography of a Continent by John Reader
This starts in deep geological time and tracks up to the modern.

The Rough Guide to Kenya
A general guide to contemporary Kenyan travel and customs.

I am finding all three to be great resources.
